Holy Saturday

Well, it's almost here: Easter Vigil. This marks 4 years (liturgically) for me. Wild times. If you are getting ready to come in, try not to barf; you'll be fine, I promise. Jesus brought you here. And are these not His words to you: "I will never leave you, or forsake you"? "He who comes to Me, I will never drive away"?

What do you have to fear? No one. Nothing except sin, which is the only thing that separates people from God. Even then, it is an undying force, Love, which pounds relentlessly on our hearts. The most wicked sinners are proof of it, because they hate all that is good, in the end. Do not be like those ones; keep that broken and contrite spirit.

You may have a burst of zeal. Good; turn it to prayer as fast as you can. Make a plan. Stick to it; the fire doesn't burn on its own. Please trust me on this. Please.

We all love you. Some more than others. Some, in fact, may be the older brother in the parable. Pay no mind, except to love and pray for them. It is never bad to love the Church.

You're going to change, but for the better. If you stay close to the Church and the sacraments, that's a guarantee. Make the decision now: "I won't miss Mass, but for the gravest reason, and I will go, even if I have committed a grave sin. I will believe that Jesus loves me, which is why He gave us Reconciliation in the first place. I will not receive Him in the Eucharist in the state of mortal sin." Please trust me on this.

My Thoughts On The Harrison Butker Commencement Speech

Update: I read the whole thing. I’m sorry, but what a weirdo. I thought you [Tom Darrow, of Denver, CO] made a trenchant case for why lockdowns are bad, and I definitely appreciated it. But a graduation speech is *not* the place for that. Secondly, this is an august event. It always is. I would never address the President of the United States in this manner. Never. Even the previous president, though he deserves it, if anyone does. Thirdly, the affirmations of Catholic identity should be more general. He has no authority to propound with specificity on all matters of great consequence. It has all the hallmarks of a culture war broadside, and again, a layman shouldn’t speak like this. The respect and reverence due the clergy is *always due,* even if they are weak, and outright wrong. We just don’t brush them aside like corrupt Mafia dons, to make a point.
